School has officially been in session for a full week. It is still a bit chaotic, but what else is new? I have debated if I would chime in on this subject or not. Well, on September 8, 2009, Mr. President was giving a speech to encourage students to do well in school so they may be able to accomplish their future goals. As of today, I have not heard all of it, but what I have heard seemed to be good, sound advice. I cannot fathom why any parent would be upset by this, oops, I know it's because the parents really don't want their children to become successful.
I think that it is horrible that some parents dislike or hate the President so much that they refused to allow their children to go to school. What type of message does that send to the child? I also think it is a sad day when school districts have to find entertainers or other people in the limelight who may not be the best voice to promote education. I am wondering what has happened in our society that we have to find a cheering squad to get students motivated to go back to school?
I don't understand it and I probably never will. I think it is time for so many of us to stop riding the coat tails of those who came before us and start getting involved. During the Civil Rights Movement, people were fighting with the hopes of invoking a change. Today, it seems like we are okay with the way things are and if we aren't, we won't say it too loud for fear of someone holding us accountable.
It is my prayer that America can get it together. How can we proclaim to be this great nation and we can't or won't take care of our own people and the issues plaguing them? When will America stop rolling out the welcome mat and running to the aid of others and help America?
